19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player won his first title for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the competition final.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has experienced a torrid period, managing just one match at the major tournaments and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in particular - caused him dropping out of the top ten and finally separating with long-time trainer his previous coach.

Presently training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has gradually improved in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought competitive victory over opponent Moutet.

This represents the player's initial championship since the Italian tournament and first on a hard court since spring of 2023.

Success also signifies the Russian has won 21 victories at 21 different events.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a event with my children at once, so to secure a title is particularly special," said tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my child her name was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six championship matches, including in the German tournament in the past months.

His counter-punching approach and regular reactions on the tennis court had caused commentators to wonder if his ability to play at the top level was concluded.

But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and perform positively, reinforced by an better service.

He fought back from a deficit in the first set against the tricky Moutet, taking four of the concluding five games to take the lead.

The pair exchanged break points in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his first ATP Tour victory, took control to force a final set.

Moutet saved 4 early-game break points in a tight deciding set before the Russian won the break to 15 to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured the title with a rally at the net area, with his opponent incapable to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
